Growing Grass for a FHE Lesson

I wanted to teach our daughter how seeds grow. First, we gathered different "Soils" such as rocky gravel, rocks, dirt, store bought soil, pine needles, and leaves and put them into an old egg carton. We wanted to see where the grass grew.

We wanted to plant the seeds in all different types of soils because we were teaching about the Parable of the Sower found in Matthew 13 for FHE on March 14th. We discussed how the seeds fell by the way side, stony places, thorns, and good ground in the Parable. We have been talking with her about where the Grass Seeds have grown in her experiment garden. I asked her if they grew in the leaves or in the rocks. They did not grow. The seeds that were planted in good soil are at least 2 inches long.
We learn in the Parable that the seeds that grow in good ground is "he that heareth the word, and understandeth it, and bringeth forth fruit."

This is a result of 9 days of growing grass seeds, a little sunshine, and water. I can't believe how fast Grass grows.
